His Excellency Dr. GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN, GCFR, commissioned the NNPC/MPN Satellite Field Development Project Platforms, ABANG & ITUT, fabricated by Nigerdock at Snake Island Integrated Free Zone. The President also used the occasion to lay the foundation stone for Skillbase, the Lagos Deep Water Shore Base. 

The Abang and Itut platforms are the first fully integrated decks to be fabricated, pre-commissioned, and tested entirely in Nigeria. They are part of 3 well-head platforms in the Satellite Fields Development Project – Phase I for NNPC and Mobil Producing Nigeria which seek to recover hydrocarbons from viable undeveloped fields.

Nigerdock has fabricated and completed the load-out of 7,500 tons of structural components for Total’s USAN FPSO. This achievement is a testimony to the company’s fabrication capabilities and its commitment to safety and quality to the oil and gas sector. Nigerdock completed the project on time with 1.8 million man-hours LTI free.

The FPSO construction was awarded to Hyunday Heavy Industries in 2008. The vessel is approximately 320 meters long and 60 meters wide, and weighs about 114,000 metric tons. The Total Usan field lies in block OML 138, around 100km offshore Nigeria in water depths of up to 800 meters. The field is operated by Total Nigeria (20%) on behalf of equity partners Chevron Petroleum Nigeria (30%), Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria (30%) and Nexen Petroleum Nigeria (20%). The field is expected to start producing in 2012 with a production capacity of 180,000bpd of oil.
